Amine concentration determination has broad applications in the
areas of biology, food, environment, marine, and forensic sciences
.
For instance, keeping in check the total amount of amine content is a
critical in-process control to ensure the product quality during the
wine fermentation process. And monitoring the level of amino
acids/peptides may be a simple approach to observe a biological
process such as ubiquitin-triggered degradation of proteins. In
addition, a sudden change of amino acid profile in human body fluids
may signal an early development of diseases.

The X-Lyz™ amine assay kit is designed to provide a simple quick
quantitative analysis for total amine determination. The assay
involves a reaction with primary amines to form a chromophore. It
exhibits a strong UV absorbance at 350nm linearly proportional to
concentrations over a wide range of 25-6,000nmol/mL (Figure 1).The
rapid color development is complete after 15min incubation. The
assay is easy to operate compared to other methods, such as
trinitrobenzenesulfonic acid (TNBS), known as a dangerous
explosive agent.  The X-Lyz™ reagent is compatible with commonly
used substances in chemistry and biology labs, such as reducing
agents, detergents, alcohols, carbohydrates, and inorganic salts.  It
may be used in measurement of amino acids, peptides, proteins,
ammonia, amino sugar, aliphatic and aromatic amines.  The method
is suitable for assays in microplates and test tube (cuvettes).  More
